I've got the Cure!

How to overcome sin in your life.

Do you struggle with sin?  I know, pretty silly question huh?  Maybe I should ask, are you growing tired of your sinfulness, especially besetting sins.  Well, I've got the cure!

I've Got the Cure! - Is Dusting Futile?

My husband and I are in the process of major home improvements.  We have battled chipping paint on the outside of our home since the first year we moved in, and it was a newly built house!  Over the course of 30 years, we have painted the entire house at least five times!  Our house has needed painting desperately for at least five years now...

Praising God that He has provided a means for us to vinyl side our home, and to replace all of our windows.  My son-in-law happens to be our contractor which is nice to have someone you trust doing such important work!

We have been in process for over three weeks now.  Since we have the dumpster on site already, we also had some issues in our bathroom that needed to be dealt with and commenced with that project as well which I will be sharing a little bit about next week.

I didn't realize how much dust gets raised up when your house is being demo'd on the outside and definitely didn't anticipate the volumes of dust that would be raised up with our bathroom project.  There isn't a room in our house that doesn't have some form of construction going on, except our living room.  We also haven't had any shades or curtains up for almost three weeks.  Now I know how fish in a fish bowl feel.  lol.

I am someone that does not operate well with chaos and clutter which, as it happens, defines my home right now.   I find myself moving a pile of clutter from one room to the other in an effort to "straighten-up".  The contents of my bathroom vanity are spread across three rooms and my current "getting ready station" is in my living room.  The only operating sink is the one in the kitchen.

I do my best to sweep up every night, but did give up on my futile attempts at dusting.

I've almost forgotten what my house looks like clean and put together, and wonder will it ever be like that again!  lol.

Do you ever feel that your battle against sin is futile?  That as soon as you confess, the new dust particles of another sin come drifting in, settling upon your soul.  Or that you justify your sins by essentially "moving the pile of your sin to an 'it's not really sin' area of your mind".  This is when sin becomes dangerous.  When we grow weary of fighting our sin, we run the risk of covering up the new Man that lives within us, making it near impossible to operate in the Spirit of the new Man.

And let us not grow weary of doing good,
for in due season we will reap,
 if we do not give up.
Galations 6:9

to be renewed in the spirit of your minds;
and to put on the new self,
 created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.
Ephesians 4:24

I've Got the Cure! - Lemon Pledge for a fast and easy shine!

In a devotion from Fixing My Eyes on Jesus, Anne Graham Lotz spoke about the new man in terms that blew me away.  She said...

"Once you and I are spiritually reborn, we are given a totally new, perfect, sinless nature that is indwelt and empowered by the Holy Spirit."

Wow!  There is a perfect, SINLESS nature that indwells me?!? In you?!?

Although I know the Holy Spirit indwells me, whenever I thought about this verse in Ephesians, I was thinking in terms of the new "version of myself" which has been cleansed by the blood of Jesus.  I never thought about it in the truest sense that indeed if the Holy Spirit resides in me, then I DO have a sinless nature within me!

We do indeed see a change as soon as we become Believers.  I think all of us can share a testimony of one particular besetting sin that seemed to vanish once we accepted Jesus as our Lord and Savior.

Yet, as time goes on, we grow weary...  I don't know why that is.  We grow weary at working at our marriages.  We grow weary at self-discipline.  We grow weary at serving at church.  We grow weary in doing good.

I watched Kathie Lee Gifford's powerful words about Billy Graham which she spoke on the Megyn Kelly Show, but I was more taken by how powerfully she shared the Gospel and didn't hold back.  Kathie Lee shared that she was asked once why she was so bold about her faith, and she responded, "You know what? If you had the cure for cancer, would you keep it quiet, or would you hold it and keep it a secret?’ And I always say, I have the cure for the malignancy of the soul – and He has a name – and it’s Jesus.”

In the same way, we have a maintenance dose so that we no longer need exhibit the symptoms of the malignancy that has already been cured, and that is the new Man, the Holy Spirit, who resides within us.  Each day we must choose to operate within that sinless nature.  We have that power through Jesus Christ!  It seems such a waste to choose to walk in a manner of one stricken with cancer when we have already been cured!

Therefore if anyone is in Christ,
he is a new creature; the old things passed away;
behold, new things have come.
2 Corinthians 5:17

knowing this, that our old self was crucified with Him,
 in order that our body of sin might be done away with,
so that we would no longer be slaves to sin;
Romans 6:6

and have put on the new self who is being renewed
to a true knowledge according to the image of the One who created him--
Colossians 3:10

But put on the Lord Jesus Christ,
 and make no provision for the flesh in regard to its lusts.
Romans 13:14

Enjoy God's great and many benefits!  He has given us everything to walk in a manner worthy of His calling.  Let us walk in those benefits!

  1. Thank you for sharing these freeing thoughts today! I love this: "if the Holy Spirit resides in me, then I DO have a sinless nature within me!" And, I have often overlooked that also, thinking only of the part of Jesus' cleansing, just as you said. But when we fully embrace the Holy Spirit within us, then we can more fully rely on His accomplishing also! What a blessed thought!

  6. Beautiful words, my friend! I trust your home renovations will soon be over for you, so you can get back to normal. I am the same way...I can't stand it when things are out of order and out of place! Even though it looks like things will never be put back together, it will happen, and it will be SO worth it! I can't wait to see pictures of your finished product! And, who wonderful that your son-in-law can do the work, and you don't have to have strangers traipsing through your house!! God bless you and keep you. :)

    1. Hi Cheryl, Thank you.

      We've hit a wall and the project is at a stand-still waiting for the building permit to be approved for our porch. The Lord is testing my patience some more. That and the fact that I am still very weak from this flu I had. Going on almost two weeks.

      But yes, it will be all worth it. This season too shall pass.

      Thank you so much for your faithful visits. They mean so much to me. I will be along soon to visit your sweet blog. I just need to get some energy so I can get back into the swing of things.

      You are always close in heart. Sending you much love and gratitude.

  7. Amen Sister! He is the cure! A beautiful reminder, especially when we find ourselves in the middle of a mess, whether that be metaphorical OR literal. Blessings as you endure the season of renovation.

  8. Just like a newborn Christian, how awesome your newly renovated house will be when done. Fresh and new. I, for some reason, never really cared for Kathy Lee, but have a newfound respect for her as of late with as you say, her forward speaking for her beliefs. In today's world, that is something in itself. Very proud of her. Maybe, I didn't care for her because I didn't really give her a chance and actually pay attention to her. My bad for that. Have a great week.
