A Baby Changes Everything

My precious grandson will be one month this Sunday.  I can't believe how fast the time has gone!  I know as a new mom, going from one to two children was a big change. My granddaughter and grandson are the same years and months apart as my two children were - three years and nine months.  Both my son and granddaughter stepped into their roles as the older siblings like champs.  Lexi following in the footsteps of her Uncle many years before. She is so very nurturing and loves to help out momma where needed.

My daughter has adjusted beautifully to the role of having two children.  In some aspects, as I recall, and she is experiencing, it is actually easier because, well, you are more at ease with the second child, but it is also more overwhelming because, well, you are responsible for two tiny humans!  lol.

I don't think I realized the aspect of change I would experience as a grandmother and as a mom to my grandson's momma.  (Did you follow that? lol.)  Most of it is wonderful! But if I'm being honest, some aspects of how it was before, I miss.  Like individual time spent with my daughter going out to dinner, shopping or to a movie.   But I know it's only for a season and the joys of another grandchild FAR outweigh anything I might be missing.

A baby changes everything for sure, but most especially by adding an additional blessing to where your heart could burst with love.

During Advent, I've been highlighting three of my favorite contemporary Christmas songs.  You can read about my first two favorites here and here.

Today I will be spotlighting A Baby Changes Everything by Songwriters: Craig Michael Wiseman / James Timothy Nichols / Kimberly Kerryann Wiseman and sung by Faith Hill.

Teenage girl, much too young
Unprepared for what's to come
A baby changes everything

Not a ring on her hand
All her dreams and all her plans
A baby changes everything
A baby changes everything

The man she loves she's never touched
How will she keep his trust?
A baby changes everything
A baby changes everything

And she cries!
Ooh, she cries
Ooh, oh

She has to leave, go far away
Heaven knows she can't stay
A baby changes everything

She can feel He's coming soon
There's no place, there's no room
A baby changes everything
A baby changes everything

And she cries!
And she cries!
Oh, she cries

gather 'round
(Up above the star shines down) star shines down
(A baby changes everything)

Choir of angels sing
Glory to the newborn King
A baby changes everything
A baby changes everything
Everything, everything, everything

Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah

My whole life has turned around
I was lost but now I'm found
A baby changes everything, yeah
A baby changes everything

In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee,  to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin’s name was Mary.  The angel went to her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.”

Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God.  You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus.  He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.”

“How will this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?”

The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God.  Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be unable to conceive is in her sixth month.  For no word from God will ever fail.”

“I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.”
Then the angel left her.
Luke 1:26-38

It is incredible to me the faith of Mary.  I wonder what it was like for her to comprehend what had truly happened to her. That she had been chosen by the Heavenly Father to carry the Savior of the World!

The Magnificat gives us insight...

“My soul magnifies the Lord,
and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
for he has looked on the humble estate of his servant.
 For behold, from now on all generations will call me blessed;
for he who is mighty has done great things for me,
 and holy is his name.
And his mercy is for those who fear him
 from generation to generation.
 He has shown strength with his arm;
 he has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts;
he has brought down the mighty from their thrones
  and exalted those of humble estate;
he has filled the hungry with good things,
and the rich he has sent away empty.
He has helped his servant Israel,
  in remembrance of his mercy,
as he spoke to our fathers,
to Abraham and to his offspring forever.”
Luke 1:46-55

Indeed, Mary's baby changed everything...

Jesus made a way for sinners to be reconciled to God.

Jesus made a way for the dead to rise again and live with Him for all eternity.

Jesus made a way for Believers to enter the throne room of Grace.

Jesus made a way for EVERYTHING that we need for life and living this side of Heaven.

Jesus made a way for Peace in the hearts of men.

Jesus made a way for Amazing Love to shine in a dark world.

This Advent season embrace all the changes that were wrought in Christ Jesus.

May you all have a very blessed and Merry Christmas.  I will see you in the New Year with all new blog posts.

  3. Babies certainly do change everything! I get to be a first-time grandma in about 7 weeks, and I am so thankful that even in this crazy world he will be born into, that the way Jesus made will be taught to him from the moment of his birth.

  5. Babies sure do change everything - in a good way! And I wonder if I could have been as willing as Mary. Counting the cost she said yes to God. I had never heard the song before. It's beautiful. Blessings to you! I'm your neighbor at the #LMMLinkup.

  10. A babe is born...a child is given. What blessings children are and a miracle from above. I so loved mine and never dreamt how much I would fall madly in love and appreciate grand-littlekins. In reading the word, my heart as a mom always breaks for Mary, but then I remember all the blessings she has in store as the mother of our Lord and Savior. Merry Christmas. :)
