The Lord of the Rains
This past summer, I was sitting with my granddaughter Lexi while she played in the pool. Suddenly, I had an "AHH HAA! moment". Water is not man-made or engineered by man! I'm sure you're saying, "Um Karen, that was your ahh haa moment. I could've told you that!". lol.
Then I would say, "But isn't it amazing!! All water that we see is hand-made by God! When we touch water, we are touching what the very hands of God have made!"
And you might respond, "mhm...". lol.
In ALL seriousness we can ALL agree that ALL water comes from the Lord. :-)
What a beautiful example of God's provision to all mankind. Without water there would be no trees, grass, flowers, plants or crops. ALL need rain to grow and survive. Water is the key to our human existence, our very lives, and it ALL depends on God's tender mercies.
Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?
Matthew 6:26
that He will give the rain for your land in its season, the early and late rain, that you may gather in your grain and your new wine and your oil.
Deuteronomy 11:14
"He gives rain on the earth And sends water on the fields
Job 5:10
Are there any among the idols of the nations who give rain?
Or can the heavens grant showers? Is it not You, O LORD our God?
Therefore we hope in You, For You are the one who has done all these things.
Jeremiah 14:22
In the same way, we have the Holy Spirit deep within us, who provides Life-giving water to our souls when we are in a season of drought, emotionally, physically and even spiritually.
Tomorrow, it looks like our drought situation will be mitigated with the remains of Hurricane Florence promising to dump up to six inches of rain to some areas of Southern New England.
When we are steeped in trials, the Lord showers His mercies upon us. My Pastor once said that were God's mercies represented by rains, we would drown from the abundance.
One of the ways my husband and I looked forward to enjoying our screened-in porch was to be out there during a gentle rain. There's just something about being warm and cozy inside, yet enjoying the fresh air while listening to the gentle rains.
We experience God's gentle showers in times of prosperity. His love and care are still discernible through the joy we feel and the gratitude we express for His constant provision in seasons of drought and seasons of torrential rains.
For it is in the gentle showers that we reflect upon all that the Lord has done for us and we see how our faith has been strengthened.
O give thanks to the LORD, for He is good; For His lovingkindness is everlasting.
1 Chronicles 16:34
I never cease to be amazed in ALL the ways that the Lord shows Himself through His creation, through our life and circumstances and through His Word.
For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood from His workmanship, so that men are without excuse.
Romans 1:20
We have this constant reminder through water and rain that the Lord is ALWAYS present and He will ALWAYS provide.
The next time it rains or you turn on the faucet, reflect upon God's goodness and provision, and ALL His life-giving, hope-filled, merciful ways. :-)

I hope you got your rain! We're being hit from water from Hurricane Rosa--and we're in eastern Arizona! But it's been a dry year, so we won't complain. I love listening to rain, too. Especially when I'm in a tent :).
ReplyDeleteHi Anita, Oh we did! And then some! lol.
DeleteOh wow!
I remember camping as a kid and I loved to hear the pop pop pop on top of our hard-top camper.
Thanks for bringing that memory back to me. :-)
And thanks for stopping by!
Lovely post Karen!
ReplyDeleteHere in Australia we have two states in extreme drought at the moment, my state has just been declared 100% in drought! The farmers & the country communities are suffering greatly. But as us Aussies do... we get together & have sent practical help in bales (millions of $ worth) of Lucerne, stock feed, groceries, money to help the farmers & communities in crisis.
Praying for rain though.
You're most welcome to drop by for a cup of inspiration,
Jennifer
Hi Jennifer, Oh my!
DeleteWhat a wonderful testimony!
Praying that the Lord will bless you all with rain as you all have blessed those with provisions who were greatly suffering.
Thanks!
Oh, isn't it wonderful to know that the precious Holy Spirit lives IN us? Lately, I have had Jeremy Camp's song running through my mind, "the same power that raised Jesus from the dead lives in us." That thought has been sinking in and blessing me so much. If we truly understood that fact and let it sink in we would never feel fearful again. To know that He not only walks WITH us but He dwells IN us and as you said that spring of living water flows up and provides our needs at all times. Thank you so much for another inspiring, edifying post, sweet friend. I am so thankful for you and send much love to you!
ReplyDeleteHi Cheryl, Indeed!
DeleteOh I needed to be reminded of that! Thank you so much for sharing sweet friend! Your comments always bless and minister to me.
You are very welcome! :-)
Sending much love,
Just beautiful! It has been raining sporadically since Sunday and the earth is soggy and green(er)! God is all powerful and blesses us with His water. I love the many Scriptures you used here.

Hi Linda, Thank you so much for your kind comment.
DeleteAmen!
Praising God for His precious Word.
Your visit has blessed me.
We just got drenched from Hurricane Michael, but I love the Holy Spirit rain.
ReplyDeleteHi Rebecca, Oh my!
DeleteThe remnants just blew through Southern New England yesterday. Just a lot of rain and a bit of wind.
We just regraded and had hydroseed sprayed down so all this rain has been such a blessing! Our lawn has come in nicely!
Thanks for visiting. :-)
Amen! It has been doing a lot of raining here in Lufkin, TX. And I have noticed after reading this that I have enjoyed watching the rain fall, seeing the droplets fall from the gutters, listening to the pattering on the roof. There has been a quiet place in me these rainy days. May I be present so that I notice and am aware of the Lord in this place. ~ linda @ Being Woven
ReplyDeleteHi Linda, It sounds like you've been fully present enjoying every aspect of the rain. Thanks so much for sharing that! :-)
DeleteAnd thanks so much for visiting!
I totally get your fascination with God's creation of rain. Just today, my kids and I were studying the water cycle and responding in awe in how water changes yet always comes back and how we must submit to the Lord's direction and timing of those changes. Turning my eyes to Jesus as I experience His creation with you!
ReplyDeleteHi Amy, Oh! I hadn't even thought of that! How true! Water comes in many forms, and I love your Biblical application. What a great addition your comment has been to this post! Thanks for sharing and thanks for visiting!
DeleteThanks so much for stopping by and for your kind comment!!

Karen - you have given me a new way to look at all the rain we get in the Pacific NW ? It rains a lot out here. But I want you to know that even though logically my brain knew God makes the rain, I hadn't thought about it in the context you brought up here. Thank you and thanks for linking up with #TuneInThursday too :)
ReplyDeleteHi Debbie, Glad I wasn't alone! ;-)
DeleteYou are very welcome!
Blessings,
