The Untapped Fount of Grace & Mercy
Grace & Mercy that is New Every Morning
Instead, what if first thing every morning we asked the Lord for His tender mercies which are promised new every morning and for a fresh infilling of His Grace to walk in and to share. What if we prayed that the Lord would help us to put off the old man with his sinful desires, and daily put on the new man with his compassion, kindness, humility, forgiveness and love, and that we would do everything in the name of the Lord, walking in wisdom and having speech that is gracious, seasoned with salt.
Walking in Grace & Mercy
You will find yourself heeding the Holy Spirit's prompts to "zip it!" when tempted to retort back when challenged. Your thoughts will be His thoughts and it will show in your conversations.
No longer will you strive "to be obedient", but instead you will acknowledge His Grace and indeed walk in His grace - the Grace that He promises IS sufficient. Not may be sufficient...
“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”
2 Corinthians 12:9
GRACE
the free and unmerited favor of God
A Prayer for Mercy
When you pray God's tender mercies over every aspect of your life, this Truth will permeate your soul and help you to rest in those mercies.
His mercies which ARE new every morning. Not might be new every morning...
The LORD'S lovingkindnesses indeed never cease, For His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness.
Lamentations 3:23
MERCY
God's covenant lovingkindness
There is Freedom in Grace & Mercy
Freedom from doing things in your own strength...
Freedom from worries and anxiety...
Freedom from self...
Freedom from self-condemnation..
Freedom from bondage...
As Believers, we tend to focus more on Grace and Mercy at the cross, at the moment of salvation more than as a daily cup that needs filling. We must view God's grace and mercy as a minute by minute necessity.
We can be daily renewed by our Great God and Savior. We only need to come to Him with our empty cup and ask Him to fill it with His Grace and His Mercy.
But when the kindness of God our Savior and His love for mankind appeared,
He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness,
but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit,
whom He poured out upon us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior.
Titus 3:4-6
And this is as true each and every day for those who are in Christ Jesus as it was at the moment of salvation...
There is no longer a need to strive after righteousness. We are His! When Christ died for our sins, He cleansed us from ALL unrighteousness, and sent us a Helper, the Holy Spirit, to fill us with His Grace and Mercy every single day. We need only to walk in that Grace and Mercy daily, and to obey the The Helper's promptings, and He will lead us in all righteousness.
May we live in the freedom of God's Grace and Mercy every minute of every day.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If there is anyone reading this post who has not experienced God's Grace and Mercy through salvation in Christ Jesus, you can do so at this very moment. No matter what you have done in your past or how sinful you have lived, our Lord and Savior's lovingkindness is far reaching and brings complete cleansing from all sin. You need only to confess your sin to the Lord, recognize that you cannot do this on your own and that you need a Savior, and believe that when Jesus died on the cross, He died for your sins, and that nothing you can do will earn your way into Heaven, but completely trust that Jesus satisfied the debt you owed. From the moment you ask Jesus, with a sincere heart, to save you from your sins, you will be cleansed. Believe that Jesus rose from the dead to set you free from eternal damnation and to make you alive to eternal life with Him. And then you will be free!! You can now live in the freedom of God's grace and mercy every minute of every day.
Grace Greater than Our Sin
Marvelous grace of our loving Lord,
Grace that exceeds our sin and our guilt!
Yonder on Calvary’s mount outpoured,
There where the blood of the Lamb was spilled.
Refrain:
Grace, grace, God’s grace,
Grace that will pardon and cleanse within;
Grace, grace, God’s grace,
Grace that is greater than all our sin!
Sin and despair, like the sea waves cold,
Threaten the soul with infinite loss;
Grace that is greater, yes, grace untold,
Points to the refuge, the mighty cross.
Dark is the stain that we cannot hide;
What can we do to wash it away?
Look! There is flowing a crimson tide,
Brighter than snow you may be today.
Marvelous, infinite, matchless grace,
Freely bestowed on all who believe!
You that are longing to see His face,
Will you this moment His grace receive?
God's grace and mercy! Amazing aren't they? Where freedom is truly found. Wonderful that you were able to rejuvenate during July!
ReplyDeleteIndeed! You summarized this beautifully! Thanks for sharing!
DeleteThank you. It was wonderful. :-)
Thanks for stopping by.
I really enjoyed your words this evening. God's grace is indeed a powerful thing.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your kind encouragement.
DeleteMay you feel God's grace this Lord' Day.
Oh, I LOVE that song you shared at the end! Praise God, His grace is greater than ALL our sin!! Oh, I truly enjoyed this post...as I do every, single one you write. You are such a dear blessing and encouragement to me, dear friend. I am so thankful you had some time away, and it is such a blessing to read of the things God is and has been teaching you. Sending much love and many blessings to you!!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Cheryl! Amen!
DeletePraising God that He uses His blog to bless and encourage you.
Thank you for rejoicing with me and my time away. :-)
Sending you much love on this Lord's Day.
Grace and mercy - we can't think of them too much. I like to say Psalm 143:8 before getting out of bed: Cause me to know thy lovingkindness in the morning, for in Thee do I trust; cause me to know the way wherein I should walk, for I lift up my soul unto Thee.
ReplyDeleteLearned it in college i.e., the KJV. (:
Sue, That is a beautiful Psalm to pray first thing in the morning. I pray a similar verse in the morning. Thank you for sharing!
DeleteBlessings,
This was really encouraging, Karen! <3
ReplyDeleteHi Alicia, Praise God you found in encouragement here! So nice to see you stopped by to visit!
DeleteI trust all is well with you and your family.
May the Lord continue to bless you in all that you do.
This is both encouraging and challenging, Karen. I need to focus more on the fact that we have God's grace and mercy each day. I, too, think of these in terms of the cross, not in the day-to-day. Thanks for shedding light on this!
ReplyDeleteShannon, Glad to find a kindred spirit in this area. I confess, as a Believer for many years, I wasn't sure I was going to share my lack of understanding of Grace and Mercy on a daily basis in its fullest sense, but it is important to be transparent. We are all flawed, but Praise God, His grace covers all our flaws every minute of every day!
DeleteYou are very welcome!
Thank you for this exposition and I have also found that if I discipline myself and start my day by reading Scripture, my day takes a different and better tone.
ReplyDeleteMiriam, You are very welcome!
DeleteThanks for sharing your own positive experience with starting your day reading Scripture and meditating on His Truths.
We truly are renewed every day!
Grace to cover all sin is an amazing gift. Some sin that Jesus covered must have been so reprehensible, but yet he covered it all for us. Mercy given even though not really sometimes deserved, but he Loves that much. Knowledge is there for the asking if we only read but one Book, think how great our world would be if we were unified just in Bible reading from all peoples. Wonderful answers I have found can be found right in that book even for the non-Christian as a guide to a good life. Grace and Mercy....love your post. Amen
I'm glad you had a time of rest during July and learned to grow daily and understand God's grace and mercy!
ReplyDeleteMe too. :-)
DeleteThank you so much for your kind words.
Such precious, precious thoughts! Thank you for sharing with us.
ReplyDeleteJulie, Thank you. You are very welcome! :-)
DeleteBlessings,
I'm so glad you were able to get away, Karen! This is a beautiful post!
ReplyDeleteJune, Me too! :-)
DeleteThank you so much for your kind words. I appreciate them.
I LOVE that song and I love that you took a break from blogging. Sometimes I think the only way we can think the big thoughts and hear the things God wants us to hear is to step away from the blog world (which can be loud and distracting and divide our attention too many ways). Thank you for sharing this!
ReplyDeleteJamie, I think you are probably right. It was certainly true in my experience. :-)
DeleteYou are very welcome!
