Tuesday Thoughts - December 8, 2015

For the first week of December, we are actually enjoying some mild temperatures.  My husband keeps telling me that we've reached that point where having already been exposed to very cold temperatures we think that the upper 40s and low 50s are comfortable temperatures.  He will also tell you that I would wear my winter jacket when it's 70!  I wouldn't go that far, but I do tend to be on the cold side usually.  However, I do agree with him, for some reason this past week, I have found the upper 40s and low 50s quite pleasant.

This past Monday I found myself doing stream of consciousness decorating.  Basically what that means is I did not plan on decorating on Monday, but one thing led to the other and the next thing I knew, I had decorated my whole house!

It all began with my Fontanini Advent calendar...

I had sat down to do some blog reading and started to read a blog about Advent which then prompted me to realize it was December 1st already, and I needed to set up my Advent calendar.  I got up from my computer and headed straight to the kitchen to do just that.  However, it would require me taking the Thanksgiving decorations off the cupboard.   I then needed to go downstairs and retrieve the bags that held the Thanksgiving decorations.  Since I was already removing Thanksgiving from the cupboard and had the bags in hand, I decided I might as well take down ALL the Thanksgiving decorations.  Once that was done, I noticed the furniture seemed a bit dusty, so I set out to dust.  Now everything looked bear, so I thought, well, I might as well start decorating for Christmas and three hours later...  returned to my computer to read a blog post about rest and boy did I need that!  lol.

What have I lingered over this week?
  • A freshly clean slider window, so much so it looked like there was no window, laughing to myself remembering several times walking clear into a closed slider screen thinking the door was open; the first time at my friend's house, with a handful of silverware in my hand, being propelled backwards, falling flat on my back, the sounds of the forks and knives spilling all around, me, laughing hysterically; the second time was at my brothers where my nose print was left in the screen, lol...
  • Looking inside one of the lit Christmas houses on the piano, seeing a Victorian family by their fireplace, decorating their tree; I crawled into this scene, wondering what it must have been like to live in the Victorian era...

  • Shopping with my daughter and granddaughter, seeing baby Lexi sit in the front of a shopping carriage "like a big girl" for the first time, three generations enjoying a fun outing...
  • My Nana's birthday, sparking so many memories of wonderful times spent with my fun & "hip" Nana, hearing echoes of her laughter, her great Irish wit always making me laugh, reminiscing about Nana/granddaughter outings, such sweet memories...
  • Looking at my sweet, simple, ceramic Christmas house, a gift from my husband many years ago when we only had pennies to spend for Christmas, one he bought on clearance for a dollar or so, and one of my most cherished Christmas presents because of all it represents...

What have I pondered this week?

The rhythm of a baby...

When my children were babies, I was not yet a believer and so my mindset was not about the character of God and all His wonderful ways as I watched my children grow.

Now as a believer and new grandmother, I am seeing Lexi's milestones through the One who created her.

This week, in particular, Lexi is responding to music.  When her favorite show Bubble Guppies comes on, the theme song makes her smile and jump up and down.  This is something we did not teach her, but she naturally does when she hears any music that she enjoys.  It is sooo CUTE to see her bounce along to the music!

How amazing our God is that He instills in infants an appreciation for music expressed through smiles and joyous bodily motions.

What am I waiting on God for?
  • Answers to prayer in loved ones lives...
  • Healing for reflux situation...
  • New friendships...
What am I relying on God for?
  • To be free from sickness for upcoming Christmas events...
  • To be free from sickness for upcoming oral surgery...
  • Integrity of tooth prior to extraction...
  • Courage for the tooth extraction and subsequent bone build-up...
  • An easy tooth extraction, not requiring surgical removal...
  • Direction in loved one's lives...
  • My walk of obedience...
  • Writing blog posts...

  1. So pretty, Karen. I wish I was that far along. Christmas is getting so close, and we just got our tree up last night...and, it's not 100% finished. Nothing else is up yet, and Thanksgiving isn't down yet. But, *whatever*, right? :) Jesus still graced Bethlehem that first Christmas night, and all of the rest is just gravy. :) Prayers for your surgery and all. ((hug))
