The Safest Place to Be

Learn how God's Control is the safest place to be.

Where is the Safest Place to Be?

In today's post, we will focus on God's investment into His children.

In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth,
the gospel of your salvation--having also believed,
you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise,
who is given as a pledge of our inheritance,
with a view to the redemption of God's own possession,
to the praise of His glory.
Ephesians 1:13-14

I'm sure all of you were just as shocked and saddened as I was by the fire that occurred at Notre Dame a few weeks ago.  As I watched the news footage, I realized how much about Notre Dame's history I didn't even know about!

Like how construction began in 1160 and wasn't completed until 100 years later!  First of all, it never occurred to me how truly old the structure was, and second that it took that long to build!  I also learned that they used 52 acres of trees for materials for the wooden portions of the cathedral!  If they want to replicate how the wood was used to fortify the roofing, they couldn't, because there aren't trees tall enough to do so now.

And then, of course, all the amazing artwork and intricate detail on the inside of the cathedral.

It truly was an investment of time, and a labor of love.

But now, O Lord, you are our Father;
we are the clay, and you are our potter;
we are all the work of your hand.
Isaiah 64:8

For we are God’s masterpiece.
He has created us anew in Christ Jesus,
so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.
Ephesians 2:10

The Safest Place to Be is Found in                          Submission to God's Sovereignty

During my study of the attributes of God, I gained new insight into God's Sovereignty.  The definition provided from the resource I was using described God's Sovereignty as follows:

God presides over every event, great and small, and He is in control of our lives.

Some people bristle at the thought that God is in control of their lives, but I find it very comforting.  If left to myself, I would get into all manner of trouble.  I am safest when I am submitting to the will of God ordained by His sovereignty and under His loving control.

For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh.
For I have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out.
Romans 7:18

But we have a Sovereign God who oversees and guides every part of our lives.  After all, He created us!  As His masterpieces, it is His prerogative to mold us according to His good and loving purposes.

We are safest in the hands of god.

Nothing touches a Believer's life that was not ordained by God.  EVERY circumstance, good or bad, has a Divine purpose, and ALL for the benefit of God's children.

Like a parent who makes decisions for a small child's care, always imperfectly, but in the best interest of the child, how much more is God's best for His children for He is perfect in all of His ways.  Knowing this should take the worry out of everything because we can say, "My Heavenly Father has sent this circumstance.  He is right there with me in the circumstance.  He will indeed strengthen me and provide for me so that I will come through it stronger, happier and more at peace than I was before."

We are safest in our Heavenly Father's Care

God did not create us to then leave us to ourselves and our own will.  He has a vested interest in His children.  The  Father prepared works for us to do before the worlds began.  The Holy Spirit is pouring into us every second of every day.  We are being pruned to encourage more spiritual growth.  We are being tested to prove His strength.  We experience trials to count it all joy.  We experience His love to bask in the peace of Christ.

We are safest in God's love

When we as Believers are in the thick of trials and difficulties, oftentimes we can feel abandoned by God.  But God does not turn His back on His children.  Our circumstances and trials will not derail or burn to the ground the investment God continues to build into His children, but instead will enhance it.   For it is through our trials that God receives a supernatural return on His investment because HE is at the root of EVERYTHING about our lives and His is the power that increases God's investment to our benefit.  As a result, we will bring more and more glory to the Father.

We are safest in God's constant presence

I think, for some, God's Sovereignty can conjure up visions of a divine puppet master who is pulling their strings.  But that is not the case at all.  The very essence and core of God's Sovereignty is Perfect Love.

Such love has no fear, because perfect love expels all fear.
If we are afraid, it is for fear of punishment,
and this shows that we have not fully experienced his perfect love.
1 John 4:18

We need not fear God's sovereignty because love motivates ALL that He does.  We are His especial children created by God and redeemed by Christ.  His will for our lives exceeds anything that we could want for our lives.  We can be still and know that He is God.

We are safest when we trust God
