God's Only Child - Me!
After reading today's post, God's Only Child - Me!, you will see yourself as the apple of God's eye.
To recap, the past few weeks, I have been doing a blog series on several attributes of God. You can read The Comfort of God's Wrath HERE where you will discover how to become an overcomer in your day to day life. Do you grapple with God's sovereignty and control over your life, for encouragement you can read The Safest Place To Be HERE.
You are God's Only Child
For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.
Romans 8:15-17
We've all heard someone share that they felt this way or maybe you even felt this way yourself... Am I really saved? Does God really love me? How could He love me with my long list of besetting sins?
Isn't that Satan's MO. He wants us to doubt our salvation.
But the Spirit living inside of us continually confirms to our hearts that we are indeed Christ's beloved children.
So why do we fall into the trap of believing Satan's lies?
Because instead of focusing on the Truth and keeping our eyes focused on Christ, we are allowing the noise of our doubts to prevent us from hearing the Holy Spirit reassuring us that we are indeed Children of God and that NOTHING can snatch us out of the Father's hands. Not only that, His omnipresence makes you feel like you are God's only child!
As God's Only Child, You Enjoy A Special Relationship
There are so many beautiful relationships in this life...
When you first fall in love, the way that person looks at you as if to soak you all in because you are the only object of their affection.
After years of marriage, when you've had one person faithfully by your side, proving that indeed you are the only object of their affection.
The sweet relationship of a newborn baby that looks into your eyes with the most precious love and affection, even at such a young age.
And then there are those genuine people who come along. They could be co-workers, friends or even acquaintances that make you feel like you are the most special person to them in the whole world. Those people's undivided attention is focused on you with sincere genuineness and intentionality.
There is a common thread with all of these relationships - an unwavering focus. An intense center of attention that conveys, "I love you,"; "You are very special to me."; "You are beautiful"; "I am listening"; "I am here for you."
If we, who are imperfect, have the ability to love like this, how much more love does the Father show His children - God's Only Child.
As I shared in my post, Helicopter Parent, which you can read HERE, Psalm 139 showcases how the Father NEVER takes His eyes off of His children. He intentionally and lovingly looks after EVERY one of their needs. He knows EVERYTHING about them and loves EVERYTHING about them. There is no wavering of His love for them. And there is not a second that He is not focused on them.
For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 8:38-39
As God's Only Child, Why Do You Doubt?
If you know all of this to be true, why do you doubt?
I think it's because you have taken your focus off of Christ. Just like in any relationship, if you look away from the one who loves you; if you stop spending time with your spouse; if you neglect your children; if you are rude to an acquaintance who is trying to get to know you, you won't feel their love or care. You will miss out on feeling loved, not because you aren't being loved, but because you are turning your back on love... the love of the Father on His only child...
When you are focused on yourself, your problems, your worries, your circumstances, you will become bitter and that bitterness will be projected onto those who are just trying to love you. You in essence do the same thing to Jesus with your complaining.
How much peace and joy you miss out on!
You will keep in perfect peace he who trust in you,
he whose thoughts are fixed on you!
Isaiah 26:3
When your thoughts and attitudes are fixed on Christ and His Word, doubts about His love for you or your salvation won't creep in. You will instead be able to hear the Holy Spirit confirming your sonship and reminding you that you are perfect in the Father's eyes and that you are dearly loved by Him.
As God's Only Child, You are the Apple of His Eye.
God the Father truly makes you feel like you are the ONLY object of His affection and that you are His only child. To experience the joy of being God's only child...
Embrace that love...
and
Proclaim that love to yourself... God's Only Child - Me!

Hi Lisa, Amen!
DeleteThanks so much for stopping by. :-)
I didn't have a good earthly father so I had issues relating to a good, good Father. But His love is persistent and pure and today I know that I know that I am loved by Him.

Reminds me of keeping your eye on the prize - as they say. Good point though as Satan surely does have a way of sneaking in those doubts. Good reminder post of who loves us and doesn't want to fool us. Have a great week. :)
